Villa D’Este 2006 (Source: Supercars.net) The traditional Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2006 took place in Cernobbio, on the Como lake, from the 21st to the 23rd of April.
A total of 12 modern concept cars and 48 classic cars, produced between 1914 and 1972 and divided in eight categories, were displayed.
According to Lorenzo Ramaciotti, President of the Jury, the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2006 represented a selection of “extraordinary cars that express beauty, passion and uniqueness, a style and a cleverness that strike the hearts”.
For the eighth time, the event was supported by Bmw Group.
1956 Ferrari 250 GTZ by Zagato Among the most interesting features of this edition of the event, two world premieres: the Ferrari 575 GTZ designed by Zagato, with the “double bubble roof” borrowed from the 1956 Ferrari 250 GTZ, and the Russo-Baltica Impression, in “Luxus Coupé” version, that honors the tradition of the brand, which provided luxury cars to the the court of the tsars until the Russian Revolution in 1917.

1959 Ferrari 410 SA Pininfarina (source: Virtual Car) The main prize for classic cars, the Bmw Group Award, went to the 1959 Ferrari 410 SA Pininfarina owned by American collector Peter Kalikow. It is an exceptional automobile produced just in 12 units between 1958 and 1959.
The Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este, the main people’s choice awards, went to a 1930 Isotta Fraschini 8 A SS, a four seater with a Castagna body, originally sold in the USA and recently restored.
The Trofeo BMW Italia (Public Referendum at Villa Erba) went to a 1939 Bugatti 57.
A Special Jury Award was assigned to a 1963 Ferrari GTO and the Trofeo FIVA for the best preserved car went to a 1954 Bentley R Type Continental.
Concept Cars
In the tradition of the event, the fifth edition of the Design Award for the best modern concept car went to to the Alfa Romeo 8C Spider unveiled at the 2005 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance which raised positive comments since its debut and was awarded the BMW Group Design Award (Public Referendum at Villa Erba).
The 8C Spider was selected among 12 concept vehicles, including the Aston Martin Rapide, Pininfarina Birdcage 75°, Renault Altica, Rolls-Royce 101EX, Bmw Z4 Concept, Mini Concept Geneva.
Bmw, the official sponsor of the event, also presented two art cars, the M3 by Ken Done and by Michael Jagamara Nelson.
