A fusion of Detroit’s creative and arts community, local automotive enthusiasts and the international auto industry, MSBE is “Detroit’s first ever sketching competition and underground party – a real Fight Club of Design” according to creator Banham.
Students and professionals alike will compete head to head in front of the audience in a multi-round competition.
The sketches will be judged on talent, merit and ability to meet the design brief by a well know trio of undisputed talent.
Robert Walker, Chief Designer of JEEP Brand Interiors at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles leads the judging panel.
He is joined by Camilo Pardo, the winner of last season’s Motor City Masters TV program, who is also famous for his work as Chief Designer on the Ford GT.
The trio is rounded out by Dan Darancou who is currently VP of Design at CH Auto in China.
The participants are provided free sketching software from Autodesk and are competing for more than the title of Sketchmaster. A custom built trophy designed by Middlecott Design and built by hot rod legends Mobsteel is awarded to the winner.
Those interested in participating in the sketchbattle can send examples of their work to brook@middlecott.com. If selected, they will receive a confirmation email.
Anyone interested in attending the event can register at 2015msbe.eventbrite.com. The event is free for those who pre-register, however a donation to The Sauvé Art Foundation is appreciated.
For those who show up at the event, a minimum $5 donation per person is required as long as space is available (all proceeds from the door sales are provided to Sauvé).
The 2015 edition of the Middlecott Sketchbattle Experiment™ (MSBE) will be held at the Hastings Street Ballroom and Tangent Gallery, site of last year’s event.
2014’s competition was in jeopardy when the record cold temperatures caused catastrophic water problems at their planned venue 48 hours before the party was to take place.
“Gallery owner Joe van Bael, rescued our event last year” stated Schwartz “and I think we have a home for years to come. We had such positive response from visitors around the globe it would be silly to move, one even said that we ‘exposed him to the real Detroit’”
The event is presented by AACS (Advanced Automotive Consulting Services, LLC) – a business development consultancy working in the automotive industry – and Middlecott Design, international design organization based in Detroit, Michigan.
