share on BufferIn his “The Roots of Italian Car Design” talk, Lorenzo Ramaciotti described how Italian design has built a worldwide reputation through projects for many manufacturers from all continents.
The students of the Royal College of Art also had the opportunity to present their initial research on the “Two of a Kind” project to Lorenzo Ramaciotti and fellow designers from the Centro Stile in Turin, Andreas Wuppinger and Andrea Mocellin.
In their set teams, the students each took the floor presenting their initial ideas and research, explaining their approach and design strategies which they will apply to their chosen vehicle. The designers then gave each team constructive feedback to help them in the next stages of the project.
In the next lecture in late October Marco Tencone, Head of Design for Maserati and Alfa Romeo, will give an in-depth study into the typical forms of Italian design.
This will serve the students of the “Two of a kind” project to develop and enrich their own knowledge by delving further into the three concepts of the legacy of Italian car design: sportiness-dynamism, elegance-balance and character-personality.
On display outside the RCA were examples of Maserati and Alfa Romeo’s latest products, with the flagship Maserati Quattroporte along with the Maserati GranTurismo Sport and an Alfa Giulietta Sportiva.
About “Two of a Kind”
The project challenges the Vehicle Design students at the RCA in London to explore how Fiat’s most iconic models, the Fiat 500 and the Fiat Panda, might look in the future.
