The participants, selected by the Car Design Academy prior to the event, included hobbyists and art/design school students from all over Japan (plus some international candidates).
The contest required participants to sketch cars using only a pen and marker over 30 minutes rounds.
The works were evaluated by a Jury composed by active and retired professional car designers as well as the Car Styling Magazine’s editor in chief.
The preliminary round was fought out by all 26 candidates, while the final round was fought out by 12 candidates.
As the organizers report, “The main purpose of this event was to get the young art/design students more active in the field of Car Design and promote the art and beauty of car culture in Japan where cars are becoming viewed more of a unnecessary luxury.”
The prizes were sponsored by Japan Transport Engineering Company, Yamaha Motor Company, Car Styling Magazine, Tsunagu Design, PDC Designworks, Too Marker Products
